Student Visa (Subclass 50)
Overview
The most common student visa. This subclass 500 allows any international student to come to Australia and participate in any educational program such as Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses, Bachelor, Masters or PhD. You might also have limited work rights of 40 hours a fortnight.
Eligibility
- Must be accepted to study full-time at an educational institution in Australia
- Appropriate welfare arrangements if you are under 18 years of age
- Valid health insurance
- Genuine temporary entrant requirement (GTE)
The GTE requirement applies to all student visa applicants.
The officer assessing the visa will consider the individual circumstances of the student to determine their intention for a temporary stay in Australia.
- English Language Requirements
Competant English is commonly required for applicants
- IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in all sections
- Other tests such as PTE Academic or TOEFL iBT will also be accepted, given the score will need to meet the required thresholds.
