If you are in a relationship with an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen, you may be eligible to apply for an Australian Partner Visa. Depending on whether you apply from inside or outside Australia, this pathway typically involves a two-stage process.

live, work and study in Australia while your permanent Partner visa is being processed
- genuine relationship with your spouse or de facto partner who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
- your spouse or de facto partner sponsor you
- be in Australia when you apply for this visa
- live, work and study in Australia indefinitely
- pathway to apply for Australian citizenship
- sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia
- hold a temporary Partner visa (subclass 820) or Dependent Child visa (subclass 445)
- continue to be in a genuine and ongoing relationship with your sponsor
Partner Visa - Apply Overseas
live, work and study in Australia while your permanent Partner visa is being processed
- genuine relationship with your spouse or de facto partner who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
- your spouse or de facto partner sponsor you
- be outside of Australia when you apply for this visa
- live, work and study in Australia indefinitely
- pathway to apply for Australian citizenship
- sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia
- hold a temporary Partner (Provisional) visa (subclass 309) or Dependent Child visa (subclass 445)
- continue to be in a genuine and ongoing relationship with your sponsor
